cubaRide a bike in Cuba 2015

Unite & Bike Against Cancer
15th Oct 2015 - 23rd Oct 2015

Download the brochure here >>

The second destination in our series of ‘Unite & Bike Against Cancer’ challenges is the Caribbean island of Cuba. This cycle ride takes us on an incredible journey beginning in
Havana, for approximately 360km.

We ride along shimmering coastlines, past tobacco
and sugar cane fields and through thriving farming communities, where for many aspects of Cuban life, time has stood still. Cars and cigars will definitely feature highly as we travel through this beautiful country.

People from all walks of life will be taking part in this amazing ride to raise funds for their
chosen cancer related charity. Join them and Unite & Bike Against Cancer!

Mary Gorman of Chapel Garth recently celebrated her 80th birthday at St Leonards club in Silksworth. Instead of receiving gifts from friends and family she asked for donations for the Breast Cancer Survival Trust. This was due to her daughter Bernadette who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May2012 and has just finished her treatment for chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Mary was grateful the trust was able to help her daughter and hopes that the fantastic total of £510 raised on her birthday evening will help other women affected by breast cancer. Mary would like to thank her family and friends who kindly donated to the trust.

NORTH EAST BREAST CANCER SURVIVAL TRUST RECEIVES DONATION BOOST

morrissonsThe Sunderland based Breast Cancer Survival Trust has received a £5000 boost to its funds from repairs and maintenance provider Morrison.

The Trust, which provides small grants of up to £100 to women in the North East of England who are affected by breast cancer, received the donation from Morrison after the company offered to donate £5000 at its annual leadership conference to the team of employees who, after participating in a number of workshops during the event, scored the highest number of points.

The winning team, which consisted of seven managers from across Morrison’s nationwide business, picked the Breast Cancer Survival Trust after reading about its work.

The small grants issued by the Trust are used by recipients to buy whatever they think will help them feel a little better, it could pay for a day out or be used to pay for essentials that many people may take for granted. The Trust believes that it is far easier for suffers to have a sense of well being, if they don’t have to worry or can even just put cancer aside for a few hours and relax.

Last year the Trust raised just over £7000 in funds, which means this new donation will make a considerable contribution and enable the Trust to provide even more support to women affected by breast cancer.

Meg Robertson, Secretary of the Breast Cancer Survival Trust, commented on the donation: “We were overwhelmed to hear that Morrison had chosen to support the Breast Cancer Survival Trust.  We are quite a small charity and £5,000 will make a big difference to many women's lives. A huge thank you to everyone at Morrison for this gift.”

Kevin Rutter, a Contract Manager for Morrison who was one of the winning team members who chose the charity said: “I am delighted to be presenting this cheque to the Breast Cancer Survival Trust on behalf of Morrison. The work being done by the Trust is truly fantastic and offers those affected by this terrible disease the chance to enjoy a treat during what is otherwise a very difficult time for them and their families.

“Many small charities like this really do make a difference, but often struggle to raise funds and it is our sincere hope that this donation helps lessen the burden and enables the Trust to help even more people.”

weddingBeth and Glenn got married on July 10th 2010 and decided that instead of buying wedding favours they would make a donation to the Breast Cancer Survival Trust and Cancer Research UK.

"We have a number of friends and family who have received successful treatment for cancer and thought this was a way of showing how happy we were that they could be at our wedding as well as remembering those who couldn't be with us."
