Pennywell Today

arial view of pennywell Pennywell, Ford and South Hylton Today is a web site developed by the City Council with the help of local organisations like Pennywell Community Business, Proving Partnership Works, The Safer Estates Task Force and Pennywell Youth Project.

The sites aim is to provide a place on the web for the local communities in Pennywell, Ford Estate and South Hylton that they can contribute to air their views and to get the information they want to see quickly and easily.

A high proportion (13% male and 9% female) of the community are unemployed. The area suffers from high crime plus a lack of facilities but the community has earned a reputation for working together to improve things. The recent building of the new shops and new medical and community centre on Portsmouth Road are visible signs that the area is improving. The recent announcement of new initiatives like Surestart in Ford Estate show the efforts of local residents, local Councillors and local organisations and Partnerships working for the area like Pennywell Community Business, Proving Partnership Works and Safer Estates Taskforce and others are gradually winning. There are not many local figures and statistics yet because the site is just getting started. However lots of local organisations have facts, figures and statistics they might like to share in this part of the site Please contact us here
