Community Champions - Grants for Individuals Up to £2000

The Community Champions Fund in the North East of England is focused on individuals who want to take their first steps in helping to regenerate their community. Such individuals will have typically not previously accessed such funding. It aims to increase their personal skills, helping them to act as community role models, mentors or leaders, helping communities to access learning and employment opportunities.

It aims to assist people with a can do attitude in communities which need support, encouraging learning and action which drives forward their renewal, tackling problems and identifying home grown solutions. The ability to pass on and share expertise to others and wider communities is also important.

The Community Champions Fund has been developed to directly help you to build skills that help you and your community. You might feel that personal development/ training and/ or visits to people and projects elsewhere to expand your horizons and look for the best practice will be an important part of your work in the community.

You might need funding and support to obtain the skills to set up a community business, savings group, develop community project management skills etc. Community Champions experience might help you want to develop a community mentoring scheme or a community network to help you actively engage with local decision-makers. Examples of past Community Champions projects can be found at www.dfes.gov.uk/communitychampions or alternatively www.thescarmantrust.org

Application Forms can be obtained by calling 0808 100 2553 (Freephone), 9.30am - 3.30pm Monday

Housing Challenge

The Housing Strategy for Sunderland was agreed by Sunderland City Council’s Cabinet on Wednesday 13 September 2006 and a copy is available through the website www.sunderland.gov.uk

The Partnership has been allocated £250,000 from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund for 2006/7 and £250,000 for 2007/8 and this allocation has been called the ‘Housing Challenge Fund’. The Partnership would, therefore, like to invite you to make an ‘expression of interest’ for utilising these funds through the completion of the Project Application Form, a copy of which is attached with the guidance notes for completion.

Members of the Partnership are looking to fund up to 5 strategic projects over the period 2006 – 2008 that will support the delivery of the 3 aspirations of Sunderland’s Housing Strategy.
