A Voice for Carers There are a number of important proposals and changes due to happen which will affect carers and many are already concerned about the cuts, larger NHS trusts which may be more distant from patients and carers etc. Sunderland Carers' Centre would like to invite any voluntary or community sector group with an interest in carers to a meeting at 12 Toward Road on Monday 30th October 2006 at 1.30 p.m. In case a lot of groups would like to attend it would be sensible if a maximum of two people per group attended and helpful if you could let Sunderland Carers' Centre know if you will be present by ringing 567 3232 or e-mailing reception@sunderlandcarers.co.uk Public Lecture and Discussion -Climate change: A constant policy challenge. Big Lottery The Community Buildings programme will give communities the chance to improve their quality of life by funding buildings that are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. The programme will pay for creating and improving facilities that offer a wide range of services and activities to a broad range of local people. You can apply to the Community Buildings programme if you are a voluntary or community organisation, a parish council or a church-based faith organisation. (Voluntary and community organisations include charities, unincorporated associations, not-for-profit companies, credit unions, self-help groups or co-operatives and faith based community organisations.). click for more details www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/ VOLUNTERRING OPPORTUNITIES CEED is an environmental charity established in Sunderland for over 20 years. Volunteers are always required to help with conservation work. If you would like to work outdoors, get some fresh air, keep fit and meet new people then why not join the team? No experience necessary as full training is provided as well as tea and coffee. You will gain new skills, have fun and have an enjoyable time. You will need boots and suitable clothing, so why not come along and give it a go as ‘together we can make a difference’. The CEED mini bus picks up at Park Lane Interchange and any fares incurred traveling to and from the interchange will be reimbursed. WEARSIDE FIRST CREDIT UNION LTD -Administrative Support Volunteer Wearside First Credit Union Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation who aims to provide savings and low cost loan facilities to the people of Sunderland allowing them to take control of their finances. We require an experienced volunteer to work from our Head Office in Sunderland providing staff with administrative support. The role requires experience of dealing with customers / enquiries both face to face and over the telephone, dealing with daily transactions and other basic administrative duties. WRVS Sunderland Eye Infirmary Tea Bar provides patients and visitors with refreshments. Volunteers are urgently needed to enable the tea bar to open as often as required. Volunteers will make tea, serve snacks and drinks to customers, deal with cash using a simple till. Replenish stock and help keep the tea bar clean and tidy. Expenses are paid and insurance cover provided.
Link Up – The bus you can order like a taxis. This is a demand response transport, semi scheduled route but will deviate to pick passengers up. It provides journeys when regular services are not operating or where direct services are not available. The buses are 25 seater and are accessible to all. The scheme is concerned with looking at alternative solutions and future plans are to looking at identifying gaps and fill with the Link Up scheme. Taxi link is a door to door service using accessible taxis for a fare of £1.00. Plans for the future include a smart card scheme with equipment installed in local taxis whereby a swipe card can be used therefore taking away the need to book 24 hours in advance. In addition Nexus with the City Council are looking to expand Compass Community Transport thereby working in partnership to expand this community transport scheme.
