For more details contact Charlie on 07950309601 or e-mail chastom57@hotmail.com Working in partnership with the Tyne and Wear Challenge Project, ACL has organised some training on how to embed Skills for Life (Literacy, Language and Numeracy) into vocational courses. Embedded basic skills combines the delivery of literacy, language or numeracy aims with vocational and other skills. Studies have shown that the practice of embedding has been beneficial in attracting 'harder to reach' learners onto Skills for Life courses, and that embedded courses have better retention and achievement rates than discrete literacy, language or numeracy provision. If you would like to attend, please complete the attached application form and return to Lisa Barnes at the Challenge Project (this form can be emailed). I would be grateful if you could copy myself into the email (carol.reid@sunderland.gov.uk) so I can monitor how many practitioners from Sunderland have accessed the training. I can also then assess whether tutors are eligible for funding to cover their attendance at the event. Financial Management Training Programme 2006 – 2007 available in Sunderland click here for further details Funding Information Older Peoples Partnership Action Group(OPPAG) meeting At the OPPAG meeting on 18 October it was announced that there is to be £100k slippage from Neighbourhood Renewal Funding. OPPAG has recently received a £1m block allocation to implement a "piloting prevention through partnerships project": * Handyperson Service, * Assisted Discharge Scheme, * Prevention Assistants, * Resource Directory, * Community Involvement Officer Members are asked to submit ideas of potential projects that the slippage could be used to fund. Please note that the money is a one off allocation - sustainability is not guaranteed. The projects also must be related to OPPAG's 5 priorities - transport; social isolation; income maximisation; crime and fear crime and exercise. In line, with the original NRF project, the ideas must relate to the preventative agenda. Please can you email Dawn Goodson on dawn.goodson@ssd.sunderland.gov.uk by 1 November.
